Guayaquil, May 2, 2023

3.7 million girls and boys, from 1 to 12 years old, will be vaccinated, from May 2 to July 9, 2023

Today, the national vaccination campaign for boys and girls against polio, measles and rubella began. President Guillermo Lasso announced the launch of this program that will last until July 9, 2023.

“We have to celebrate the start of this vaccination campaign because it means that together we are seeking a healthy future for our children. Vaccines multiply well-being. They give them immunity and keep children away from diseases that are preventable.”

The National Government, with the Ministry of Public Health at the helm, plans that this campaign will have a coverage of 95% of the target population. To achieve this, the health centers are ready and 80,000 brigade members, including health workers and the educational system, will visit educational units, public and private child care centers. In addition, the medical centers of the peasant social security of the IESS will also attend. “We will go where our children are”, emphasized the President.

The Government of Ecuador invested around 8.2 million dollars for this campaign. The vaccination campaign for an Ecuador free of polio, measles and rubella joins other programs, such as Ecuador Grows Without Child Malnutrition, which the Government promotes as State policies to provide better opportunities for the future of children in Ecuador.

“Well nourished and vaccinated girls and boys are healthy and happy children. It is their right to be taken care of by the State and it is our obligation as a government to do so,” Lasso pointed out.
