Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis launches on February 12, 2027, bringing a 14-to-16-hour campaign to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog with publishing by Amazon Game Studios, the reimagined classic merges modern technology with original design blueprints.
Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog Shape Playtime and Exploration
Players diving into Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis can expect a campaign lasting between 14 and 16 hours, depending on individual playstyles. Experience Director Jeff Adams noted that the playtime matches the spirit of the 1996 original, which typically ran for 12 to 15 hours. Rather than rushing through objectives, the development team deliberately structured the world to reward curiosity.
The updated levels across Peru, Greece, and Egypt feature redesigned layouts and new traversal tools. Players gain access to a special grappling hook for vertical obstacles and an artifact scanner to uncover hidden rooms and secret mechanisms. Adams advised fans to turn off social media and take their time exploring the atmospheric environments rather than rushing to the finish line.
Alix Wilton Regan Plays Lara Croft
The upcoming title marks a fresh beginning for the franchise, featuring Alix Wilton Regan as the new version of Lara Croft. Amazon Game Studios handles publishing duties for the project, which serves as the second time the inaugural 1996 adventure has been remade. The release date shifted from an earlier planned window of June 2, 2026, to the current February 12, 2027 schedule.
While modern mechanics like crafting and skill trees have drawn some scrutiny, lead developers modeled their approach on prominent modern remakes. Creative Director Michał Kuk of Flying Wild Hog explained that the team focused on preserving the iconic beats that resonated most with players.
At the same time, developers adjusted elements that no longer fit realistic fidelity. Experience Director Jeff Adams pointed out that encountering a med pack inside a tomb sealed away for 10,000 years clashes with modern visual realism.

Amazon Games ID Account Unlocks the Mediterranean Wetsuit Outfit
Fans can already claim an in-game cosmetic reward ahead of the launch by linking an Amazon Games iD account to Steam, PSN, or Xbox. The Mediterranean Wetsuit Outfit combines a wetsuit and swimsuit with a tool belt, thigh holsters, diving goggles, a matching backpack, and Lara’s hair styled in a high ponytail.
Beyond the remake, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Game Studios are also developing Tomb Raider: Catalyst, slated for a 2028 release window. Serving as the fourteenth main entry and a sequel to 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld, Catalyst places Lara in the ruins of Northern India against rival treasure hunters.

Technology and Visual Design in Legacy of Atlantis
Character artists and narrative directors leaned on Unreal Engine technology to rebuild Lara Croft’s character model while honoring her 1996 pixelated roots. Senior Character Concept Artist Aleksandra Skiba outlined the balancing act behind the visual updates.
You want them to feel believable, but you also want them to look recognizable. You have to figure out what you can do now to make them better.
The development staff constructed full-scale 3D-printed models and commissioned a tailor to sew physical garments, scanning the results to capture realistic fabric folds and material behavior. Narrative Director John Stafford summarized the philosophical pillars guiding the studio’s work on the character’s identity and legacy.

What we kept: Lara’s intelligence, fearlessness, and thrill-seeking spirit remain completely intact. What we evolved: we deepened her emotional depth and relationships without losing her confidence. What we reimagined: we unified the mythic, grounded, and larger-than-life tones of multiple Tomb Raider eras into one Lara.
