Mahindra Thar’s upcoming 5-door model will be based on the same ladder-on-frame chassis platform as the new-generation Scorpio N SUV, confirmed R Velusamy, senior vice president, MRV, Automotive Product Development, Mahindra. The Thar 5-door comes with a separate door for the rear seat passengers and has more interior space.

The 5-door Jimny is expected to be at least 100 kg heavier than the current 3-door version, at around 1,190 kg. The 3-door version is powered by the K15B engine – a 1.5L NA petrol unit with 103 PS of peak power on tap. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque-converter automatic with a part-time 4WD system.

Ex-showroom prices of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door are expected to start at Rs 10 lakh. The Jimny 5-door measures 3,850 mm in length, 1,645 mm in width and 1,730 mm in height. With this length, the Jimny will be similar to the Maruti Suzuki Swift in terms of length. However, the wheelbase will be 2550mm. The five-door version is expected to get more boot space compared to the three-door variant.
