The summer of 2023 slowly closed just a few weeks ago, and yet the eyes of enthusiasts of the little queen are already fixed on the summer of 2024. Like every year, almost nine months before the launch of the Tour de France, the organizers unveil the route for the next edition. This year, Christian Prudhomme and his teams will reveal the route of the stages of the Grande Boucle 2024 (June 29 – July 21) this Wednesday at the Palais des Congrès in Paris.
If the Grand Départ from Florence – first departure from Italy in 111 editions – as well as the equally unprecedented arrival in Nice (due to the Olympic Games in Paris the same summer) have already been known for several months, the details of the stages are still kept secret. “The Tour started from all the countries bordering France. He even left the Netherlands six times, which does not have a common border with France. But he has never left Italy yet. There is a kind of incongruity that will disappear,” explained the Tour director.
Although hidden from the public, the 2024 route has nevertheless experienced some leaks. According to Le Dauphiné Libéré, the peloton should, for example, make two passages in the Alps, compared to usually just one. As for the first three stages, it has already been officially announced that they will take place in Italy. Outgoing double Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard and former winner Tadej Pogacar could have plenty of time to explain themselves even before their arrival on French soil.
