Toyota’s official representative in Russia, Toyota Motor Company, is voluntarily recalling more than 22,000 Toyota Avensis vehicles sold in the country from 2003 to 2007, the press service of Rosstandart reports.

“22,712 Toyota Avensis vehicles sold from April 2003 to May 2007 with VIN codes according to the application are subject to recall,” the message says.

The reason for the recall is that on some cars of this model there is a risk of a decrease in the density of the squib in the driver’s airbag under the influence of heat and humidity.

The report notes that the operation of an airbag with a degraded squib is fraught with the destruction of the gas generator body, as well as the ingress of fragments of the gas generator into the passenger compartment, and this, in turn, can injure the driver or passengers.

It is planned to replace the gas generator of the driver’s airbag on the recalled cars, the work will be carried out free of charge.
