Party founder Sahra Wagenknecht has sharply attacked the federal government over spending on armaments and arms aid for Ukraine. Wagenknecht said at the political Ash Wednesday in Passau that she had already described the traffic light coalition as the stupidest government in Europe. But she had to add: “We also have the most dangerous government in Europe, and that too is something that cannot continue like this.”
The “manslaughter argument” will be used if no further arms are upgraded and no more weapons are delivered to Ukraine, then “the Russians are at the door,” said the former left-wing politician, who founded the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance at the beginning of January. This is probably a primal fear of the Germans. “I wonder, how stupid do they think we are?”

The arms deliveries were “pure madness,” said Wagenknecht, adding: “We need the money here in the country for good pensions, for good health care, for a proper infrastructure, that’s what we need it for, and not more and more money for this damned military build-up and for the arms deliveries.”
Almost two years ago, Russian troops invaded Ukraine to prevent the former Soviet republic from being further connected to the West and have since occupied almost a fifth of Ukrainian territory, including the Crimean peninsula, which was annexed in 2014. Western states such as Germany and the USA are supporting Kiev in its defense against the invasion with, among other things, arms deliveries.
