Transit traffic has resumed at the Ras Jedir crossing between Tunisia and Libya in both directions, after the Tunisian authorities closed it as a precaution for the safety of travelers from the two countries.

A Tunisian security source at the border crossing confirmed that the crossing and influx of travelers had resumed in a way that would ensure the return of Libyans to Libya and the entry of Tunisians into Tunisia. He explained that the crossing was closed unilaterally as part of precautionary measures for the safety of citizens of both countries.

According to eyewitnesses from the merchants of the border city of Ben Guerdane, the law enforcement unit was stationed on the Libyan side, and the so-called “Zouarians,” an irregular security squad, were excluded.

Libyan media reported earlier that gunmen stormed the Ras Jedir border crossing with Tunisia and clashed with members of the National Unity Government.
