The well-known author, Tamar Galvetz, passed away today (Tuesday) after years of fighting a serious illness. In 2000, she was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer. She was operated on and the spleen, one kidney, half of the diaphragm and part of the intestines were removed from her body.

Galbatz, who died at the age of 65, was born in Tel Aviv and grew up in Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva and Haifa. Her grandparents were doctors. Tamar Galbats served in the IDF as a military reporter, and studied English literature and film and television at Tel Aviv University. She began her journalistic career as a film critic for the entire city of Jerusalem, worked at Mossaf Ha’aretz in news and in the city, where she was a reporter and editor of culture columns. She also worked at Maariv as a senior editor, She was one of the founders of the supplement Tarbut Ma’ariv, and served as the newspaper’s TV critic. She also wrote the TV series “Florentine” and was the editor of the cultural program “The Small Circle” by Gal Ohovsky on Channel 2.

Galbats is the recipient of the 2008 Prime Minister’s Award for Hebrew Writers. In the same year, her book “Mekuplet” was nominated for the Sapir Award. Galbats lived in Tel Aviv, and was the mother of a daughter from her previous marriage to Ronan Ben Tal, a musician and owner of sound studios. Her brother is the musician and translator Shimon Galvetz.
