Tragedy Strikes in Brazil as Fire Kills Nine in Landless Labor Movement Camp

A devastating fire broke out at a camp belonging to Brazil’s landless labor movement MST, leaving nine people dead and eight others injured. The incident occurred in a rural farmers’ camp located in Parawbipas town as a result of a problem in the electrical network during the installation of internet wiring.

Community leaders reported that the blackout occurred around 8 p.m. and was caused by a fire in power cables when an antenna touched the high-voltage network while crews were working on it. Of the nine people killed, six were residents of the camp and three were workers from an internet company.

The injured individuals were rushed to the hospital, with one remaining in the intensive care unit with second-degree burns. Thankfully, their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

This tragic event has left the community in mourning and has raised concerns about the safety and infrastructure in rural camps. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and authorities are working to provide support to the families of the victims.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this devastating incident.
