An unusual tragedy in Argentina: a 13-year-old boy was playing soccer with his friends and when he returned home, he complained to his mother about the intense heat and the mosquitoes that were bothering him – and was looking for a place to cool off. Hours later, the boy’s grandmother opened an ice cream freezer in the family’s possession and found the boy’s body in it.
Thiago Ismail was an amateur soccer player from the city of Córdoba in Argentina. Yesterday there was a heavy heat in the area and when Thiago came back from playing soccer with his friends, he went into the freezer and probably locked himself inside, or fell asleep. His mother tearfully told television in Argentina: “Around 1:00 at night, my mother turned off the lights in the house and decided to open the freezer. She found my son inside. There was nothing else to do.”
The family members rushed to call the ambulance and the police. Thiago was rushed to the hospital, but the doctors could not save him and determined that he died of cardiorespiratory arrest. The tragedy did not end there. When family members told the boy’s 85-year-old great-grandmother about his death and the way he died, she collapsed and died herself.
The local media reported that the mother, Belen, has a history of mental disorders and that she provided another version according to which she was the one who found her son. Therefore, the police are still investigating the case. One of the directions being tested is whether Tiago entered the freezer as part of a viral challenge on social networks.
The grandmother who, according to the initial version, found her grandson’s body, said: “We took this freezer from a business that went bankrupt and left it unplugged. Maybe Tiago plugged it in to cool down, I don’t know…”.
