A Lithuanian woman has avoided immediate imprisonment after being convicted of three counts of violence against her roommate, with alcohol playing a central role in each incident. The Trakai Chamber of the District Court of the Vilnius Region handed down a sentence of one year and seven months, but suspended its execution for two years, citing the defendant’s lack of prior convictions and personal circumstances.
The case, spanning from april to July, highlights the perilous intersection of domestic disputes and alcohol abuse. Court documents reveal that in all three recorded instances of violence, the accused, identified as jolanta, was heavily intoxicated. Experts testified that alcohol directly contributed to the outbreaks of violence, and the victim was also found to be under the influence during the initial altercation.
Frist Incident: A Disputed Stabbing
The first episode of violence occurred on April 12th around 7:30 p.m. in the couple’s kitchen. Following a verbal argument, Jolanta allegedly stabbed her roommate in the chest with a kitchen knife. While the victim initially told investigators that Jolanta intentionally stabbed him, he later claimed in court that he had “stepped” onto the knife while hugging her, and that she merely helped disinfect the wound.
Though, the court ultimately rejected this revised testimony, relying rather on evidence from neighbors, police officers, doctors, and forensic experts. thes sources concluded that the stabbing was intentional, despite the injury being classified as a superficial stab wound. Experts emphasized the potential for far more serious consequences given the nature of the attack.
Escalating Violence: Punches and a Knife Handle Attack
The violence continued on May 21st, around 6:50 p.m., with Jolanta again heavily intoxicated – registering a blood alcohol level of 2.04 per thousand. After another argument in the kitchen, she punched the man in the ribs and eye, resulting in a stab wound near his eyebrow and other minor injuries.
The final recorded incident took place on July 25th at approximately 3:15 a.m.Jolanta, with a blood alcohol content of 2.72 percent, allegedly struck her roommate in the back of the head with the handle of a knife, inflicting a 4 cm wound.
Neighbor’s Testimony Proves Crucial
A neighbor played a pivotal role in the case, intervening in all three incidents due to the loud arguments and disturbances.the witness reportedly saw the victim covered in blood and overheard jolanta admitting to the stabbing. The neighbor also testified that Jolanta threatened him with an umbrella and a kitchen ladle.
Upon arrival, police found evidence of a struggle, including bloodstains, a bloody knife, and disarray within the apartment. Despite Jolanta’s denials in court, the court prioritized the initial testimonies and expert findings.
Suspended Sentence and Conditions of release
After considering all evidence, the court found Jolanta guilty of three counts of violence against a family member, committed with direct intent. While sentenced to 1 year and 7 months imprisonment, the execution of the sentence was suspended for two years.
During this period, Jolanta is required to abstain wholly from psychoactive substances and participate in a behavior modification program. Failure to comply with these conditions could result in th
