Transport General Authority Approval of Bus Drivers’ Uniforms – New Requirements and Guidelines

Jeddah – Transport General Authority has approved the uniform of bus drivers. This applies to all types of bus services like specialized transportation, educational transportation, chartered bus, international transportation etc. From April 27, bus drivers will be required to wear uniform.
The uniform for drivers will strengthen the authority’s efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of services in the bus transport sector and improve public image and positive appeal. Mandatory uniform for drivers is a part of periodic and continuous modernization and improvement of bus service including technical specifications of passenger buses, service tenure of buses and other provisions of the legislation relating to bus service taking into account all aspects of development and improvement. The Authority is constantly keen to serve the beneficiaries and advance their aspirations. The public transport authority also said that it is diligently striving to achieve high standards of quality and satisfaction among the beneficiaries of transport services in Saudi Arabia.

Officials say male drivers can wear the Saudi national dress (thob) as a uniform. Shoes or footwear should be used with the tob. A driver using a tob may or may not wear a headscarf or hat. If wearing a hat, wear a black hat.

Those who do not wear a thobe should wear a long-sleeved light blue uniform shirt, black trousers with low waist, black belt and black shoes. This is mandatory. Women drivers can optionally wear a veil as a uniform. They should wear shoes or footwear along with the veil. They can wear headscarves or hats. If wearing a hat, wear a black hat.

Those who do not wear a veil should wear a long-sleeved light blue uniform shirt, black pants with low waist, black belt and black shoes. Companies can develop their own special uniform with prior approval from the Transport General Authority. In such situations, a long-sleeved shirt or half-sleeved shirt, trousers with a flared waist, a belt and shoes should be prescribed as the uniform. Male and female drivers can also wear hats. The color of the cap should match the color of the shirt.

A jacket or coat can be worn by the driver in addition to the uniform. There is a provision that the driver’s clothing should not interfere with the performance of duties. Drivers must wear identification card along with uniform. Name, photograph, driver card number, company name and emblem should be included on the identity card. Persons licensed to operate in the field of educational transportation need only use the driver’s name and driver card number on the identification card. There is also a provision that the uniform should not forget any basic information on the driver’s identity card.
