tribute to the carpenter and craftsman father of Jesus of Nazareth

by time news

One of the celebrations that goes hand in hand with Holy Week is Saint Joseph’s Day, an event that commemorates the husband of the Virgin Mary and the father of the Child Jesus. This takes place every March 19, in several countries.

During the celebration, the Catholic Church carries out various activities such as processions and masses. Saint Joseph of Nazareth is considered the ‘patron saint of the universal church’.

Tradition says that Pope Pius XII added a second day to the liturgical calendar, which is May 1. On this date, the dedication – name of a divine person or a mode of appearance – to San José Obrero is celebrated, and the memory of him as a carpenter and patron of this work.

The importance of this figure is due to his mission: he was chosen to be the father of the Child Jesus. According to ‘EWNT’, he is the representative of unborn babies, family members, parents, immigrants, carpenters, those seeking employment, among others.

In Colombia, the celebration has a holiday, which is next Monday, March 25 and will give way to the celebration of Holy Week, which remembers the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus, during Sunday the 24th and Saturday the 30th of the same month.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

To commemorate this celebration, the ‘Vatican News’ portal shared the powerful prayer to Saint Joseph to ask for his salvation and miracles. Below the full text:

Hail, guardian of the redeemer

and husband of the Virgin Mary.

God entrusted his Son to you,

Mary placed her trust in you,

With you Christ was forged as a man.

Oh, blessed Joseph,

show yourself father to us too

and guide us on the path of life.

Grant us grace, mercy and courage,

and defend us from all evil.

Amen.

He is also the father of carpenters.

Prayer Saint Joseph the Worker

Craftsman and worker,

oh most humble Joseph,

the working classes should look at you

as your special pattern and model

the working classes of our days.

Like them you earned bread with the sweat of your brow,

and you hardened your hands handling the crude tool.

The working crowds of today

They disdain to look at you,

for following sinister ideals

with which redeeming liars turn their heads.

For them and for their luck,

and he is interested in the effective restoration of his rights in Christ,

more than Liberation lies,

the Church of God.

Pray, Holy Worker,

for those disinherited classes

Oh! In your Son,

of the hopes of heaven

and the consolations of resignation.

Ask Jesus for them,

your workshop partner,

glorious Saint Joseph.

Amen.
