Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan is a much awaited film from Tamil cinema among film lovers across India. The first part of the two-part franchise will hit the screens on September 30. The film is based on the famous novel of the same name by famous Tamil writer Kalki. Jayam Ravi plays the titular character in the film, which tells the story of Arunmozhivaram, the chief ruler of the Chola dynasty. Trisha plays the role of Kundavai, a Chola princess also known as Ilaya Piratti, in the film, which also stars Jayam Ravi. This character is the girlfriend of Vallavaraiyan played by Karthi. There is a song in the film that tells the love story of Kundavai. Kritika Nelson penned the lyrics for the song which starts as Kathode Sol. Music by AR Rahman. Sung by Rakshita Suresh. The makers have released the lyric video.
Ponniyin Selvan is produced by Subhaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions. The budget of the film is Rs 500 crores. Mani Ratnam’s production banner Madras Talkies has also produced the film. Aishwarya Rai, Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Vikram Prabhu etc. are lined up in the movie. From Malayalam, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Lal and others are also playing the lead roles. The shooting of the movie started in 2019. The first part of the two-part franchise will hit the screens on September 30. Shree Gokulam Movies, a leading production and distribution company in Kerala, has the Kerala distribution rights of PS1. The film will be screened in around 250 theaters in Kerala.
