MADRID, 15 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former US President Donald Trump has assured that he will be the “loyal and intrepid champion” who will defend the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which enshrines the possession of firearms, if he wins the 2024 presidential elections.

“I am proud to have been the most pro-gun and most pro-Second Amendment president you have ever had in the White House and if you support me in 2024 I will be your loyal friend and intrepid champion again as the 47th president of the United States,” Trump posted in his social network, Truth Social.

Trump is in Indianapolis to participate in the National Rifle Association (NRA) Annual Convention, which is also home to his former vice president, Mike Pence, who is considering running for the Republican Party primaries and contesting the nomination for the New York millionaire, with whom he is now openly at odds.

At the moment in the race for the Democratic nomination, the only one who could overshadow Trump in the polls is the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis. In the last few hours, one of the possible contenders, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, has officially confirmed that he will not appear.

“We are not going to join the race for 2024,” Pompeo explained in statements to Fox News. “We have come to the conclusion that it was not the time for us”, in reference to himself and his wife, Susan, the television highlights.

Pompeo has posted a message on Twitter shortly after confirming it on Fox News in which he indicates that his decision is “personal” and that now is not the “right time” for both him and his family. However, he has highlighted that “there are still many opportunities for a more appropriate moment to arrive.”
