Torino Film Festival Kicks off 43rd Edition with Focus on International Cinema

A celebration of global filmmaking, the Torino Film Festival launched its 43rd edition on Tuesday, November 21st, promising a diverse lineup of 120 films. The festival’s artistic director emphasized the central role of the films themselves,while acknowledging the importance of star power in attracting audiences.
A Festival Built on Film
According to the festival’s artistic director, the core of the event remains the cinematic works presented. “I hope to expect a lot of good cinema, that thing is increasingly crucial, because the festival is the films,” he stated on the red carpet at the teatro Regio. “Then the stars are color, they are beauty, they are glamour, they are the public’s enthusiasm, they are my joy in receiving them, but the festival is made up of films and therefore I hope that the public can find 120 titles, in those 120 titles they will find their jewel, their cup of tea, as they say.”
The 43rd edition of the Torino Film Festival aims to broaden its scope beyond Hollywood,celebrating international talent and national cinematic icons. The festival, which began November 21st, will run through November 28th, offering a platform for both established and emerging filmmakers. The festival’s artistic director stated the goal is to highlight the “best of the various nationalities of cinema who then make their nations great.”

While acknowledging a strong Hollywood presence in previous years, this year’s festival aims to showcase a broader spectrum of international talent. The director highlighted the inclusion of prominent figures like spike Lee, alongside leading actors representing diverse national cinemas.
“The other year there was a lot of Hollywood, this year there is also Spike Lee, who is obviously a Hollywood director in some ways,” he explained.”But I thought I woudl also give the best of the various nationalities of cinema who then make their nations great.”
Celebrating National Icons
The festival will feature performances from some of the most celebrated actors in their respective countries. These include Antonio Banderas, widely regarded as spain’s most critically important actor, Juliette Binoche, considered the leading French actress, and Hanna Schygulla, a cornerstone of German cinema. This purposeful curation underscores the festival’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of international filmmakers and performers.
