Turkey imposes restrictions on the export of products of 54 different categories to Israel until a cease-fire is declared in Gaza, the Turkish Ministry of Commerce said today, as quoted by the Anadolu Agency and Reuters.
The measures will come into effect immediately, the department specified, BTA clarifies.
In a statement following Turkey’s announcement that it would take new measures against Israel after Tel Aviv rejected Ankara’s request to join airlifts of humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, Turkey’s trade ministry said the export restrictions would include iron and steel products, building materials, machinery, etc.
“This decision will remain in force until Israel, within its obligations under international law, declares an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and allows a sufficient and continuous flow of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” the Turkish ministry said, adding that Turkey has long “not permitted the sale to Israel of any product or service that could be used for military purposes”.
