Mumbai – Two persons who tried to smuggle rare species of wild animals through air cargo were arrested in Mumbai. Immanvel Raja, a native of Dharavi, and Victor Lobo, a native of Madgaon, were arrested. A total of 665 wildlife including star tortoises, various species of turtles, snakes, iguanas, rare species of lizards and fish were attempted to be smuggled.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said that this is the biggest wildlife smuggling case ever caught at the Mumbai airport. The wildlife was brought by air cargo from Malaysia. These were stored in 30 boxes. Out of this 117 animals died. Their market value is around Rs 3 crore.
