As part of World Toilet Day held under the theme “ Sanitation and social cohesion », the Burkina Sanitation Directorate, in collaboration with Niyel, presented documentary films to partners on the issue of latrines and their management.

“Where does your poop go”, a film which retraces the journey of the emptier and not only discovers one of the treatment stations and the treatment techniques, but also the challenges to be met in Burkina Faso. These are situations depicted respectively by two young directors from Burkina Faso, Sonia LOYARA and Harouna NEYA in order to challenge decision-makers on the issue.

« The general national rate of access to sanitation is 27.5%. So there is a lot of effort to be made. 2030 is more or less 7 years away. The theme is to accelerate change, and accelerating change really means inviting stakeholders to redouble their efforts. At the national level we relied on the theme. We believe that actions linked to this cohesion can help accelerate this change. said Julienne Tiendrébéogo, general director of sanitation.

«Working to put the infrastructure together,” This is the thinking of the operations director of the National Water and Sanitation Office (ONEA), Tontama Sanou, regarding this issue. “At the same time as we provide sanitation services, we must work alongside the population to clean up their living environment. To carry this out, we rely on a certain number of actors through a good number of actors”he said.

And it’s the same idea with Yasmina Zongo, advocacy officer at NIYEL. “ The government is doing its part and it is as important as it was good to turn to the citizen path “, she added. Since 2013, the United Nations has established World Toilet Day, on November 19, to highlight health issues.
