Title: U.S. Uses Surveillance Drones in Search for Hostages in Gaza

Date: November 2, 20XX

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States has deployed surveillance drones over Gaza to aid in locating hostages who were taken by Hamas during their attack on Israel on October 7, according to two U.S. officials on Thursday.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the officials revealed that the U.S. has been conducting intelligence gathering flights over Gaza for over a week. The aim is to contribute to the efforts in locating and rescuing the hostages. It has been reported that amongst the more than 200 individuals held captive in Hamas’ underground tunnels, there may be 10 Americans who remain unaccounted for.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces intensified their assault on Hamas by encircling Gaza City, the main city in the Gaza Strip. In response to Israel’s attacks, Hamas has been engaging in hit-and-run tactics from their extensive network of underground tunnels.

As the focal point of Israel’s offensive operations, Gaza City has been advised to evacuate its civilians to the southern regions. Israel has vowed to dismantle Hamas’ command structure and eliminate any threat to its security.

The conflict began on October 7 when Hamas fighters launched a surprise attack into Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 people, predominantly civilians, in what Israeli officials have described as the deadliest day in Israel’s 75-year history.

In retaliation, Israel has conducted extensive airstrikes and ground offensives in the small Palestinian enclave of 2.3 million people. According to Gaza health authorities, the death toll has now risen to at least 9,061 Palestinians.

The situation in the region remains highly volatile, with both sides showing no signs of backing down. International efforts for a ceasefire have thus far been unsuccessful.
