New Delhi: The case filed by Uddhav Thackeray in the Supreme Court challenging the Election Commission’s decision that the Shiv Sena party’s name and symbol belongs to Eknath Shinde will be heard tomorrow.

After the 2019 assembly elections in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena left the BJP alliance and the Congress formed a new government in an alliance with the Nationalist Congress. Uddhav Thackeray took over as Chief Minister.

Last year, under the leadership of senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, a large number of MLAs defected and joined the BJP to form a new coalition government. Accordingly, on June 30 last year, the BJP coalition government headed by Eknath Shinde took office in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, petitions were submitted to the Chief Election Commission by the Uddhav Thackeray and Shinde teams claiming the right to the Shiv Sena’s name and symbol. The commission that investigated these petitions announced on the 17th that the Shiv Sena name and the bow and arrow symbol of the party belonged to Shinde.

Shiv Sena has movable and immovable assets worth Rs.186 crore. In addition, there is Rs.148.46 crore in bank accounts. According to the Election Commission’s announcement, the entire Shiv Sena party’s assets and money are now going to Shinde’s team.

In this context, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court by the Uddhav Thackeray team against the decision of the Election Commission. Abhishek Singhvi, lawyer for Uddav, appealed to Chief Justice Chandrachut yesterday that this petition should be taken up for hearing immediately. The Chief Justice did not accept this. The Chief Justice had announced that a decision will be taken today on Uddhav’s plea.

In this case, senior lawyer Kapil Sibal, representing Uddhav Thackeray, met Chief Justice Chandrachud of the Supreme Court and requested an interim stay on the Election Commission’s decision regarding the Shiv Sena. He also said that after the decision of the Election Commission, there is an attempt to seize the party’s assets. Accordingly, Chief Justice Chandrachud said that the petition filed by Uddhav Thackeray will be taken up for hearing tomorrow at 3.30 pm.
