New Delhi: The Littoral Response Group (LRG) of the UK Royal Navy reached Chennai on Tuesday. This is part of the first deployment of a UK ship in the Indian Pacific region. This is an important step in the maritime cooperation between India and the UK. Only a few years ago the UK Navy has created Littoral Response Groups (LRG). This is a task group of the Royal Navy which consists of at least two amphibious warfare ships, a company of Royal Marines as well as supporting elements.

When the UK Navy group, led by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Argus and RFA Lime Bay, reached the Arabian Sea, it conducted a sea exercise with the Indian Navy. Now, they will go to Larsen & Toubro Shipyard at Kattupalli near Chennai for maintenance. For the first time, maintenance of a Royal Navy ship will take place in an Indian shipyard. The UK High Commission issued a statement saying that this is the result of the agreement made between India and the UK for sharing logistics in 2022.

It will also conduct training and exercises with its allies and partner countries in the region.
