51 people were killed and six others were seriously injured this Thursday as a result of a Russian missile attack on a warehouse and a cafe in the Kupiansk district, located in the Ukrainian region of Kharkiv.
The attack occurred after noon when around 60 people gathered near local businesses after attending the funeral of one of the town’s residents, a soldier who fell during the war. The Minister of the Interior of Ukraine, Igor Klimenko, noted that practically “one member of each of the families” of Groza, a town of just 330 inhabitants belonging to Kupiansk, had attended. “The doctors are fighting for their lives,” the minister emphasized about the injured.

According to preliminary information from kyiv, the town was attacked by an Iskander missile. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office released photographs of bodies lying on the grass and a woman kneeling over them. The spokesman for the Kharkiv Prosecutor’s Office, Dimitro Chubenko, stated that the attack was the one that caused the highest number of fatalities with a single bombing in this region since the start of the war on February 24, 2022. “All the dead are civilians. “These are mostly women and older people,” Chubenko said.
For his part, President Volodimir Zelensky described the event as a “completely deliberate act of terrorism” and sent his condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. At the time of the attack, Zelensky was participating in the summit of the European Political Community (EPC) in Spain, where he asked Western countries for more arms support for the war against the Russians.
