It is the Admiral Makarov frigate, one of the most modern warships of the Russian Army
The frigate ‘Admiral Makarov’ belonging to the Russian Navy would have been burning for hours in the Black Sea. Although Moscow claims to have no information about the event, the Ukrainian deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko has reported through his Telegram account that the ship would have been hit by ‘Neptune’ missiles, the same ones that sank, on April 14, the ‘ Moskva’, the most important ship of the Kremlin’s fleet in that area. Like that, the Makarov sailed off the Ukrainian coast near the Snake Island.
The loss of this ship is not an anecdotal damage. According to military experts, it is another of the jewels of the Russian Navy and has been in Ukraine’s sights for several weeks. At 124.8 meters long, she is the most modern warship and has 32 missiles (24 surface-to-air ‘Buk’ and 8 cruise ‘Kalibr’). She is also equipped with A-190 cannons, air defense artillery, rocket launchers and torpedoes. In addition, she has room left to transport a ‘Kamov Ka-27’ helicopter.

With a crew that can reach 200 crew members, it belongs to the Admiral Grigorovich class frigates, of which Russia has three. Built between 2012 and 2017 at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, she was named after one of the heroes of the Russian Navy, Vice Admiral Stepan Makarov, who died in action during the Russo-Japanese War.
