Russia and Turkey have announced their support for a safe sea route for grain exports from Ukraine. The decision was made during talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Covosoglu. Instead, it called for a easing of sanctions imposed on Russia by Western nations. Russia has demanded the removal of mines installed in Ukrainian ports.
The talks were part of a UN proposal to pave the way for the export of 2.2 billion tonnes of grain through Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. With the opening of the safe passage, Russia will also be able to export food and fertilizer.
Meanwhile, Western media reported that more than a thousand Ukrainian soldiers captured from Mariupol were being transferred to Russia. Ukrainian courts have tried and imprisoned three Russian soldiers. The fighting is in its final stages in the eastern city of Severdonetsk. The Ukrainian army is ready to withdraw from here. With this, Luhansk, one of the two regions of the Donbass, became completely under Russian control.
