Cardinal (Jean-Claude Hollerich), the president of the Federation of Synods of the European Union, has said that the war in Ukraine has caused a wound in the soul and heart of Europe.
The cardinal, who will complete the five-year leadership of this association, also shared the bishops’ continued appeal for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
The cardinal said that people are dying, injured, suffering from cold, hunger and thirst every day in Ukraine, and the bishops should do everything they can to bring about a temporary ceasefire.
A Europe that promotes peace
“The sooner peace comes to Ukraine, the better it is for the people,” he said, adding that it was unthinkable that Europe would take the lead in promoting peace while Ukraine was at war.

In his speech, the cardinal said that he is happy that many Catholics have welcomed immigrants in Europe.
