Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned today that his country will lose the war with Russia if US President Joe Biden’s request for $60 billion in US aid remains blocked in Congress due to Republican opposition to Donald Trump, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.
“If Congress doesn’t help Ukraine, it will lose the war,” Zelensky said in a serious tone during a video conference call with ambassadors from the United24 government fundraising platform.
“Without the support of the Congress, it will be difficult for us not to win or even to survive” as a country, the Ukrainian president added.
“If Ukraine loses the war, other countries will also be attacked,” Zelensky warned, pointing out that Russia, which invaded its neighbor in February 2022, could then actively use a nuclear threat to intimidate Western societies.
A $60 billion package of US military and economic aid to Kiev has been blocked in Congress since last year because of disagreements between Democrats and Republicans, and the US has a presidential election in November.
Its passage depends on the goodwill of Donald Trump’s supporters in the House of Representatives, who refuse to consider the text as it is because of differences over the regulation of migration in the US, according to AFP.
Against the background of the shortage of ammunition experienced by the Ukrainian armed forces, the Russian army has recently achieved certain successes. It is already on the outskirts of the important city of Chasov Yar, in the eastern Donetsk region, the Telegram channel “DeepState”, close to the Ukrainian armed forces, admitted today.
Ukrainian military spokesman Oleg Kalashnikov said that all Russian attacks in the direction of Chasov Yar were repulsed today. “If he captures (this city), the enemy can threaten our logistics routes,” he warned at the same time.
