UN He also mentioned that Sri Lanka is ready to support the efforts of India and Japan to become permanent members of the Security Council. India and Japan are the main lenders to Sri Lanka in economic crisis. Apart from this, China and the Asian Development Bank are also lending to the country.

India’s continued effort: UN Britain, China, France and the United States are the 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council. There are also 10 temporary member states elected by the General Assembly every 2 years.

Since the permanent member states have ‘veto’ power, they can block even important decisions in the UN.

India’s two-year tenure as a non-provisional member will end in December.

In this case, UN There are calls for reforms including increasing the number of permanent members in the Security Council. India, which is at the forefront of this issue, has made continuous efforts to become a permanent member of the Security Council.

As currently constituted, the Security Council lacks geo-political representation; India says this is wrong and unjust.
