The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army admitted that the situation at the front is developing badly. In recent months, Russia has pushed Ukrainian defenses in several places along the front line. But the Ukrainian defenders are limited by the lack of ammunition.
Heavy fighting is taking place around the key railway junction of Kupjansk in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region or west of the Russian-controlled towns of Kreminna and Lysychansk. Clashes also continue along the southernmost front lines. “Probably as a result of high losses, the activity of the enemy in other areas of the front decreased significantly,” said Syrskyj.
Western experts worry whether Ukraine can sustain its operations when it is short of ammunition. The US Department of Defense has now said it is allocating an additional “provisional” $300 million in military aid. However, a more complex military package for Kyiv has been waiting for approval in Congress for several months. This increases pressure on Ukraine’s European NATO allies to help.
