Unni Mukundan starrer ‘Meppadiyan’ won the award for Best Indian Film at the Bangalore International Film Festival’s Chitrabharathi, Indian Cinema Competition 2021. Originally released in theaters, the film is now streaming on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
The actor said that he is proud that the film has been shortlisted and won the award.
The film also stars Aju Varghese, Anju Kurian, Kottayam Ramesh, Saiju Kurup, Nisha Sarang and Kalabhavan Shajon. Unni Mukundan plays the role of Jayakrishnan, a mechanic involved in a ‘big land deal’. However, the plot of the film is about him engaging in transaction making possible and facing life’s challenging situations.
The situation arose where Unni Mukundan had to be the producer for this film. Later, he gained weight to play the role of Jayakrishnan.
It was too late to start filming after the Kovid crisis started. The lockdown began after that. During this time, Unni Mukundan had to maintain his increased body weight. The film was also screened at the Dubai Expo.
