Against the backdrop of decisions by an increasing number of countries to close their airspace to Russian airlines or suspend flights to Russia, the United States recommends that its citizens in the Russian Federation leave its territory as soon as possible. The United States Department of State advises against traveling to the Russian Federation, the embassy in Moscow said on Sunday, February 27. The diplomatic department urged fellow citizens to use any available transport options to leave Russia.

A similar statement was made by the French Foreign Ministry. Citizens of the republic traveling through the Russian Federation are strongly advised to immediately fly out of Russia by existing air services and postpone any trip to this country. The French flag carrier Air France, like many European airlines, has suspended flights to Russia and over its territory.

Hours earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union would close its airspace to Russian airlines in light of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine. Rosaviatsia in response began to close Russian airspace for airlines from European countries.
