The Ecuadorian Attorney General’s Office reported that nine other people were also injured in the attack, including a deputy candidate and two police officers.
The body also ensures that the author of the shots died during the attack, amidst the exchange of fire with the victim’s security guards. The criminal’s name has not been released either, but it is hypothesized that he was part of the criminal faction “Los Lobos”, considered the second largest in Ecuador and which claimed responsibility for the crime.
This Thursday afternoon, the country’s Minister of Interior, Juan Zapata, had stated that the six suspects are foreigners. The Ecuadorian police later said that the detainees are Colombians.
Zapata has not confirmed whether the six suspects are part of the “Los Lobos” group. Just as the authenticity of the claim has yet to be asserted.
