US attacks Syria and Iraq

The United States attacked Syria and Iraq on Friday night (2). The offensive, carried out on bases used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), left at least 16 dead and 25 injured, according to information from the Iraqi government.

The bombings were revenge for the deaths of three US soldiers in Jordan, which took place on Sunday (27).

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, confirmed the attack in a statement.

“At my direction, U.S. military forces have struck targets at facilities in Iraq and Syria that the IRGC and affiliated militias use to attack U.S. forces. Our response began today and will continue at times and places of our choosing,” said the leader North American.

Biden further emphasized that Iran is not his target, but “all those who might seek to harm us, know this: If you harm an American, we will respond.”

According to the American military, the targets were:

  • Command and control areas.

  • Rocket, missile and drone warehouses.

  • Logistics centers.

  • Ammunition distribution warehouses

According to the Iraqi Prime Minister’s spokesman, Mohamed Shia al-Sudani, the attacks symbolize “a violation of sovereignty” with “disastrous consequences for security and stability”.

Syria said the bombed areas were in the country’s desert and that people were injured there.
