Italian Fencers Monaco & Bossalini Set to Compete at European Championships
Italy will send a formidable team of 47 athletes to the European Cadets and Junior Fencing Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia, from February 20-27, vying for 24 continental titles across three weapons. Among the rising stars representing Italy are Valentino Monaco and Andrea Bossalini, both from Piacenza, who have earned their place on the national team.
A Historic Moment for Circolo “Pettorelli”
The selection of Monaco and Bossalini marks a significant milestone for Circolo “Pettorelli,” the fencing club that nurtured their talent. According to the club president, Alessandro Bossalini, this is the first time in decades the club has had representation at the European Championships. “It’s a grand satisfaction for the entire Circolo Pettorelli,” he stated. “Two of our athletes are returning to compete at the Europeans after a long time. The last experience was mine in 1989 in Gouda (Netherlands), it was also my debut in such a relevant competition.”
Rising Stars in Men’s Foil
The two 2009-born athletes will compete in the Men’s Foil Cadets (Under 17) event alongside teammates Pietro De Gaetano (Roma Fencing) and Gabriele Giovita (Cus Catania). Francesco La Forza (Scherma Bresso) has been named as the reserve for the team. Monaco and Bossalini will begin their individual campaigns on February 20, with the team event scheduled for two days later.
A Testament to Dedication and Passion
The club president emphasized the dedication and hard work that led to this achievement. “This call-up is a dream come true for these two boys, who have grown tremendously and have been protagonists of an extraordinary journey in their categories, year after year,” he explained. “They have always shown commitment and passion and are beginning to reap the rewards of what they have sown.”
The European Championships in Tbilisi promise to be a thrilling showcase of young fencing talent, with Monaco and Bossalini poised to make their mark on the international stage.
