Journalist Valentina Voikova, known as a news presenter on the former TV PRO BG and News7, becomes the operational director of Euronews Bulgaria, the media reported.

Voikova was chosen “at the suggestion of the partners and after numerous interviews”, the announcement reads.

Voikova has over 20 years of television experience, she has been a reporter, news anchor, producer, author and host of publicist shows. She worked at BBT, BNT, BTV, Pro BG and TV7 (News7). In recent years he has been dealing with digital media.

“Voikova is a proven professional and it is our pleasure to welcome her to the Euronews Bulgaria team. I am convinced that together we will continue to produce a quality television product that meets the highest standards in journalism and the global level of the Euronews brand,” said Ivan Ivanov, executive director of Euronews Bulgaria, on the occasion of the appointment.

For the presentation of the new director of the Euronews Bulgaria team, François Signiac, editorial manager of Euronews affiliates, and Peter Barabas, editor-in-chief and head of News at Euronews, arrived in our country, concludes the announcement.

Until now, Euronews Bulgaria did not have an operations director. It is not clear from the media release whether Voikova was chosen by the Bulgarian management of the television or by the headquarters in Lyon.

Her appointment comes after the crisis with the departure of a large part of the team that created Euronews Bulgaria, headed by editor-in-chief Marina Stoimenova.

On the eve of the local elections in 2023, first Stoimenova, and then other key journalists from the television left in protest against violated editorial independence. The reason for this was the appointment of a “hat” of the editorial unit. Vanya Zaharieva was added to the team – appointment of the Bulgarian owner of the channel Ivan Ivanov. Zaharieva was appointed program director, but the journalists said they were told to consult news content with her as well.

After the loud scandal that followed, the headquarters in Lyon decided to leave Zaharieva as program director in charge of non-news programs, and editor-in-chief Marina Stoimenova to “pilot” the editorial content. However, Stoimenova herself left soon after. A new editor-in-chief has not yet been appointed.
