Greg Van Avermaet (37) defoliates the daisy. The Belgian classic man reported that he will decide if he hangs up the bike at the end of the year or, at the latest, at the end of the 2024 season. He will make the final decision after the current spring classic campaign.

“I had planned to run until I was 40 years old,” he told Het Nieuwsblad. “It’s not like that. Either I retire at the end of the year or I will run one more. After the classics I will make that decision”, continued the one from ag2r, who has not won since 2019.

“I want to make the decision, not to be removed. I am my main critic and I want to see how far I can go. That motivates me and it’s the only reason I keep racing, because I think I can compete with the best ”, completed Van Avermaet, who has not climbed a top cobbled podium since 2021, when he was 3rd in De Ronde.
