Varanasi: The Gyanwabi Masjid Committee has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court challenging the district court’s permission to allow the family of a Hindu priest to worship in the basement of the Gyanwabi complex in Varanasi.

In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu temple was demolished in the Gnanavabi complex adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, and a mosque complex was built on top of it.

In this case, Shailendra Kumar Pathak, the grandson of former hereditary priest Somnath Vyas, had filed a case in the Varanasi district court seeking permission to perform puja in one of the four cellars under the ground floor of the Gnanavabi complex. The court heard this and ordered the family of Pujari Somnath Vyas to perform pujas at that place.
According to this, they performed pujas in the basement of Kashi Vishwanath temple and worshiped today.

In this case, a case has been filed on behalf of the Gnanavabi Masjid Committee in the Allahabad High Court seeking to cancel the order issued by the Varanasi District Court and ban the puja. The case is coming up for trial soon.
