The Municipality of Guatemala will be doing vehicle closures during Good Friday, March 29, 2024in it Historic center due to the processions that will take place that day.
In this note we share the details of the streets that will be closed and alternate routes to use if you frequent this area of the zone 1 of Guatemala City.
Streets closed in the Historic Center during Good Friday 2024
Amílcar Montejo, the spokesperson for the Municipality of Guatemala, shared the details of the vehicle closures that will be implemented next Holy Friday in it Historic Center of Guatemala City due to the seven processions scheduled for that day.
During the afternoon of Good Friday, most of the processions will take place, which will generate simultaneous tours in the different streets of this area of Guatemala City.

Streets closed and alternate routes
The road closures will affect the following points: from 1st street to 13th street, between 3rd avenue and 11th avenue.
As circulation alternatives, the following routes are suggested:
- Civic Center Area
- Elena Avenue
- Boulevard The Assumption
- Martí Street Sector
Schedule of vehicle closures during Good Friday 2024
Street closures are scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m., converting the place into an exclusively pedestrian space. This change is intended to ensure the safety of people who attend churches or wish to witness processions.
If demand exceeds expectations, closures could begin as early as 1:00 p.m. The authorities recommend that citizens use public transportation, Transmetro, taxis or coordinate with family members who can bring them closer to the Historic Center.
It is estimated that vehicle closures will remain in place until approximately 2:00 in the morning on Saturday, March 29, so drivers are recommended to plan their routes in advance and take the necessary measures to avoid setbacks.
What processions will take place on Good Friday 2024 in zone 1?
- La Merced Parish Procession: from 2:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Procession of the Rectoral Parish of San Sebastián: from 2:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Procession of the Buried Lord Christ of Love of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, Santo Domingo Temple: from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
