Verstappen with the pole for the sprint, Colapinto 10th and Checo Pérez 11th

Lewis Hamilton set the best time in SQ1 with a fast lap of 1m33.840s, beating Charles Leclerc, who recorded with his Ferrari a best lap of 1m33.896s. Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz closed out the top five.

Sergio Pérez advanced to eighth in his last attempt after being ruled out for much of the session by track limitations.

Oscar Piastri was eliminated in SQ1 after scrapping his best lap and dropped to 16th ahead of Esteban Ocon. Alex Albon was trying to qualify with his Williams but suffered a spin in the last turn and will start in 18th place.

Argentina’s Franco Colapinto was the only Williams representative to advance to SQ2 in 12th.

In the second round, Sainz was the best with a time of 1m34.109s beating Verstappen with Hamilton, Leclerc and Russell closing out the top five.

Franco Colapinto emerged as the best Williams to SQ3 in eighth place.

Sergio Pérez was eliminated in SQ2 after Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda moved him to 11th, just ahead of new RB member Liam Lawson, although he later lost his lap due to going over the circuit limits.

In SQ3 the Mercedes placed first and second with Russell and Hamilton with a reference time of 1m32.845s. However, Leclerc got between them with a lap of 1m33.059s.

In the end, it was Max Verstappen who took pole position for the Austin sprint with a time of 1m32.833s, leaving George Russell second with Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris closing out the second row.

Franco Colapinto will start tenth after suffering a spin in his first attempt at SQ3.

Carlos Sainz will start fifth. Nico Hulkenberg, Lewis Hamilton, Kevin Magnussen and Yuki Tsunoda from sixth to ninth.
