Since its creation in 2017 by the Bayard group, the Center des monuments nationaux, the Crea (founder of the Folles Journées de Nantes) and the Manche department, the festival Via Eterna cultivates loyalty as well as novelty.

To celebrate the millennium of Mont-Saint-Michel, this new edition mixes repertoires and artists, from medieval music to contemporary creation, in the West and elsewhere. As for the concert venues, as always, they invite you to discover the wonders of the bay (Ardevon, Avranches, Cancale, Carolles, Dragey-Ronthon, Genêts, Granville, La Lucerne-d’Outremer, La Selle-en-Coglès, Pontorson, Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, Val-Couesnon), before the last Sunday when all the meetings converge on the Mont itself.

voice in majesty

Regulars will be happy to find the formidable vocal trio Les Itinérantes, whose The hour of the dream already promises moments suspended between dream and reality, sweetness and flame (October 5, Saint-Pair-sur-Mer at 8:30 p.m.).

As for Philippe Pierlot’s Ricercar Consort, which, to the delight of the public, consistently takes part in Via Aeterna, it will invest the superb abbey of Lucerne (12 October at 8.30 p.m.) with a program devoted to Heinrich Schütz (1585 -1672), master of the first German Baroque and precursor of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Another return to Via Aeterna, that of the vocal ensemble Mikrokosmos which offers the second part of its singular trilogy “fusional” between styles and eras. The day surprises me thus succeeds The night unveiled, in the Mont abbey (October 15 at 4:30 p.m.).

Hebrew music

Without revealing the entire program, we can also mention a few nuggets, such as the recital by pianist Vanessa Wagner devoted to the captivating music of the American Philip Glass (Avranches, October 14 at 6 p.m.) or the arrival of the Yamma Ensemble (in Cancale on October 13 at 8:30 p.m. and in Pontorson on October 14 at 8:30 p.m.). Under the leadership of Aviv Bahar, this Israeli collective is dedicated to reviving the accents of ancient Hebrew music, while associating it with the creation and sounds of our time. Whether sacred or profane, scholarly or popular tradition.

Also noteworthy are the two sublime Trios with piano by Franz Schubert by the Trio Wanderer, expert in the field (Cancale, October 7 at 8:30 p.m.) or, in the poetic and elegant Maison de Christian Dior in Granville, a tribute to the couturier by harpist Anaïs Gaudemard (7 October at 3 and 4 p.m.).

Many other appointments are offered to music lovers, always focused on the fusion between the beauty of heritage sites, grand or modest, that of the landscapes that surround them and musical inspiration. She who inhabits the composers, animates the interpreters and enchants the listeners.
