Viareggio Repaci Award, Paolo Mieli the new president

by time news

VIAREGGIO – Paolo Mieli, journalist, essayist and already twice editor of Corriere della Sera (from 1992 to 1997 and from 2004 to 2009) is the new president of the Viareggio Repaci Prize. The decision was unanimously taken by all the members of the jury of the prestigious literary recognition wanted in 1929 by Leonida Repaci, Alberto Colantuoni and Carlo Salsa, as the seven-year mandate of the outgoing president Simona Costa came to natural expiry. All the jurors were present at the meeting, convened by the mayor of Viareggio Giorgio Del Ghingaro, and materially organized by the literary secretary Costanza Geddes da Filicaia: Mariapia Ammirati, Marino Biondi, Luciano Canfora, Ennio Cavalli, Marcello Ciccuto, Franco Contorbia, Francesca Dini , Emma Giammattei, Sergio Givone, Giovanna Ioli, Giuseppe Leonelli, Mario Graziano Parri, Gabriele Pedull, Annamaria Torroncelli, the outgoing president Simona Costa. Also present – but without the right to vote – the mayor Giorgio Del Ghingaro and the city councilor for culture Sandra Mei.

GREETING FROM THE PRESIDENT – My thanks to the mayor Del Ghingaro – comments Mieli – and to the jury of the Award: it is an honor for me to accept this position. A special thanks also to Simona Costa who preceded me, for the work done, but also for the affectionate words she had towards me. Now is the time to get to work to get to the selection of the first squads. Time is running out and the next edition of the Viareggio Rpaci Prize is to be imagined.

THE MAYOR – Welcome to Paolo Mieli from me and the whole city of Viareggio – says Del Ghingaro -. It is a privilege to have him as president and I thank him for not hesitating to accept. A dutiful thanks also goes to the outgoing president Simona Costa and to the jury, for the work done in these seven years. It was a complicated period but, despite everything, the award managed to maintain its prestige and also to re-evaluate itself. Now is the time to look forward with ambition. Viareggio is a candidate for the Italian Capital of Culture: the RPACI Prize, the president, the commissioners, but above all the selected works, and everything that revolves around the long-awaited final evening, will be an essential part of this candidacy.
