For the second year in a row the Vikos Falcons failed to reach the finals of the playoffs for promotion to the Elite League, losing to a team that was not just a match for them, but clearly superior to them, at least according to the picture in second half of the National League 1 championship.
Last year it was Doxa Lefkada that put an end to his chance to claim promotion. This year it was Trikala Basket, who threw him on the canvas. A team that “scattered” in Neo Klisto last Wednesday, winning it with a difference of 27 points. The defeat on Saturday in Trikala proved to be decisive, as it awakened the nightmares of the previous year, which unfortunately came true in the afternoon, with the team of Kostas Delegou losing 67-73.
And let someone imagine, that the game started in the best way. In the first quarter, Vikos led with 12 points, then increasing the difference to +16. However, when the guests started to collect the difference and the shots from the perimeter did not find a target, Vikos started to get out of his water. And as time passed, Trikala seemed to have the upper hand, as the Vikos players stopped shooting and tried to reach the basket only through the racket. An aggressive outburst by Ivosev just before the end showed that something can change, but you don’t get anywhere with one player today in basketball, no matter how good he is.
The other favorite of the category, Ethnikis Livadeias, had the same fate as Vikos, who were defeated at home by Near East, who will claim one of the places in the Elite League with Trikala Basket.
The first scorer for Vikos was Ivosev with 25 points, while Heilaris was also in double figures with 12. Anagnostopoulos did the big damage for the winners in this game too, with 23 points, while Chiaves scored 19.
