According to investigators, who relayed images captured by the establishment’s surveillance cameras on Tuesday, the wanted suspect would be between 25 and 35 years old, would be of “average stature” and would speak French.

For each of the two thefts he committed during the night, the modus operandi was the same: the man entered the convenience store alone, after the clerk had given him access. Then he said he had a gun in his possession, asking for money and threatening the employee there. Note: the suspect was not wearing gloves at the time of the incident, and he was fleeing on foot after collecting the money.

Anyone who has relevant information in connection with this individual or this affair is asked to contact their neighborhood police station, or the anonymous Info-Crime Montreal center, at 514-393-1133. A report form can also be completed confidentially online at infocrimemontreal.ca.

Advice to businesses

For merchants who would like to protect themselves from robberies, the SPVM also recommends protecting their business by placing the cash register “in a place visible from outside your business”. Signs or displays that “obstruct the view from the outside” should also be avoided by ensuring that the building number is clearly visible “at the front or back” of the building.

An alarm or video surveillance system should also be installed. Finally, the cashier should always keep some money in the cash register, but make deposits “at various times”, especially at night.

At all times, “do not try to defend yourself and hand over your money to minimize the risk of injury.” Subsequently, “immediately dial 911 and mention the description as well as the direction of the attacker’s flight”, the investigators recalled in passing.
