Vodafone has suffered a cyber attack this week in which the personal and banking data of “a limited number of customers” have been compromised, as shared in a statement to several Spanish customers. The incident is the result of unauthorized access to the systems of one of their collaborators and they claim that it has already been resolved.

The British telecommunications company, with a subsidiary in Spain, has confirmed this via SMS or email. In it, they have provided a link to a longer text in which they report in detail what happened and inform that, as soon as they realized it, they have stabilized the situation and have activated the necessary reinforcement measures in the computer systems.

The firm’s statement states that the exposed data of the affected Internet users has been the following:

– Las company accounts: name, CIF, contact number, email, address and bank account of company clients.

-Los authorized business accounts: name and surname, contact number and copy of ID.

-Self-employed accounts: name, surname, ID, contact number, email, address and bank account.

-Las individual accounts: DNI details, contact telephone number, email, bank account and contracted telephone number.

Although Vodafone has not given an exact number, it assures that those affected have been “a limited number of customers” and that none of them have been prepaid customers. According to what they say, the bank account of this type of user of their services “is not affected.”

According to INCIBE and the Civil Guard, Vodafone’s warning messages have reached the affected people, therefore, if you have received the statement, it is probably your data is compromised. Likewise, they clarify that no password has been compromised, although they recommend changing it. To comply with the personal data protection regulations, Vodafone has quickly contacted the Spanish National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE), the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) and potentially affected customers, both companies as self-employed and individuals.

In addition, they have provided several contact numbers for those who want to obtain more information about what happened to demonstrate that they take “transparency, as well as communication, very seriously.” In the case of companies and self-employed workers, they can make a call to 22122 and, if they call from a phone number that is not Vodafone, to 900 878 488. Individuals must contact the number 900 851 151.
