Voyager 1, the farthest human-made spacecraft from Earth, has transmitted readable data for the first time in five months, AFP reported, citing NASA.

The probe, which is located about 24 billion kilometers from us, has not sent reliable scientific and technical data about its condition since November, the US space agency explained, BTA reported.

However, NASA teams were still able to issue commands and the spacecraft, launched more than 46 years ago, continued to operate normally.

The problem was caused by a chip in one of the on-board computers responsible for formatting scientific and technical data before sending it to Earth. In the end, an ingenious solution to the problem was found.

NASA was able to verify the health of the spacecraft for the first time since November and will continue to use the same solution to recover science data.

Voyager 1 and its twin, Voyager 2, are the only spacecraft traveling in interstellar space. They carry on board recordings of sounds and images of Earth on gold and copper plates.
