The VW ID.2all revealed a more popular electric future for the German brand, aimed at catering to the masses and thus maintaining the DNA of the Wolfsburg manufacturer, imprinted in its own name.
Thus, as a “people’s (electric) car”, the ID.2all brought the modernity of electrification in a traditional proposal, however, disguisedly emotional.
So emotional, it will make anyone who has owned or ridden in a Volkswagen remember a moment in the past.
Thanks to digitization, it is now possible to glimpse part of the past in properly configurable images in the cluster of an electric car like the ID.2all.
If you noticed in our first article about this concept with the size of a Polo and more space than the Golf, you saw that one of the images did not have the configuration proposed by the concept.
That digital cluster, accompanied by multimedia, has nothing to do with the ID.2all directly, but with the classic Beetle, in a dark and properly emotional layout.
The classic dashboard of the Beetle, accompanied by a simple radio, presented in this way, make the ID.2all proposal more interesting than expected, but VW went further.
The instrumentation of the second generation Golf, very similar in appearance to what was seen in VW’s domestic cars in the 1980s, is also available in the concept.
With analogue speedometer and odometers, the digital display features the same style, as well as a type of tachometer focused notably on energy consumption and the fuel gauge converted into a gear indicator.
Even the digital clock and the spy lights are there for the enjoyment of enthusiasts, while the multimedia features a cassette tape alongside a clipboard-shaped GPS with an annotation ticket, apparently from the destination.
Andreas Mindt, head of design at VW, comments: “We are transferring the DNA of our icons into the future. The ID.2all is therefore also a tribute to the Beetle, Golf and Polo.”
If the novelty comes as standard on the ID.2all, it will be well received by many buyers, who will be able to experience a nostalgic atmosphere aboard an electric car.
