In New Delhi, MPs are allotted a bungalow or a large apartment by the government. Apart from this, these MPs can also get a government house or apartment from the government to use as a ‘guest house’. It has to pay rent.
Some of the Tamil Nadu MPs have bought such ‘guest apartments’ and rented them out to other people. Many people working in foreign embassies and private companies rent these apartments. Even though these MPs get rent from them, they do not pay the rent due to the central government.
As a result, Hardeep Singh Puri, the minister of this department, ordered to send notices to these Tamil Nadu MPs. These upset MPs are meeting senior BJP leaders and trying to ‘withdraw’ the notice.
