“Warrior Nun” Revived as Trilogy of Feature Films After Cancellation by Netflix

After being canceled by Netflix after two seasons, the popular fantasy drama series “Warrior Nun” is making a comeback. Executive producer Dean English announced on Tuesday that the show will return as a trilogy of feature films.

The revival of “Warrior Nun” came about thanks to a passionate fan campaign to save the show. Series creator Simon Barry acknowledged the fans’ efforts on social media, stating that the show will be more epic than ever before. Writer and consulting producer Amy Berg also confirmed the news.

Initially, there were doubts about where the show would find a new home. Sources reported that talks were ongoing with the show’s rights holders, Perfect Circle Productions and Productivity Media. However, English finally revealed that the feature film plan is a go in a YouTube video and statement posted on a website dedicated to saving “Warrior Nun.”

English expressed his gratitude to the loyal fans for their support and announced the exciting news of the show’s return as a trilogy of motion pictures. He emphasized that the fans’ energy and dedication made it all worthwhile.

While English didn’t provide many further details, he did mention that the ongoing strikes in Hollywood made it difficult to announce the creative talent involved in the movie trilogy.

“Warrior Nun” is based on the comic book “Warrior Nun Area” by Ben Dunn. The series follows Ava, a young woman who is brought back to life after death by a divine artifact. She discovers that she is part of an ancient order tasked with battling demons on Earth.

The show premiered in July 2020 and received positive reviews, leading to its renewal for a second season. It gained popularity on Netflix’s top 10 list for English-language TV series and also appeared in Nielsen’s U.S. streaming rankings. However, Netflix decided to cancel the show in December.

Following the cancellation, fans launched a determined campaign to revive “Warrior Nun” through social media and various campaigns, including billboards. Barry credited the fans for the show’s revival in his tweet.

The cast of “Warrior Nun” includes Alba Baptista, Lorena Andrea, Kristina Tonteri-Young, Tristán Ulloa, Olivia Declán, Thekla Reuten, Sylvia De Fanti, and William Miller. Barry served as executive producer for the second season alongside Stephen Hegyes and David Hayter.
