The groundwater level is sinking and there is often a lack of awareness of this precious commodity. That could change if only a certain amount per household is sold at the normal rate.
Although intensive rain in April and May led to a rise in the groundwater level, in many regions (Lake Neusiedl, Marchfeld, parts of Carinthia and southern Styria) the groundwater bodies are far from being replenished.
