It has been 18 years since all three Wayans brothers worked together on a project, but after nearly two decades away, they are back and ready to tackle the horror genre again with Scary Movie 6.
This news comes via Deadline, which announced that the comedy that parodies horror film trends will go into production next year for a theatrical release distributed by Paramount and Miramax.
The Wayans brothers spoke about the reunion and had the following to say: “We couldn’t be more excited to be part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the theater, and we hope to see that happen again. We look forward to collaborating with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring the laughter back to cinemas, where it belongs. It’s a double reunion.”
The Scary Movie series began back in 2000 and has grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office over its lifetime. Let’s hope the reunion can deliver some more great parody comedy moments.
Interview between Time.news Editor and Wayans Brothers Expert
Time.news Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we have a special guest who specializes in film and television, particularly the work of the Wayans brothers—Megan Taylor. Thank you for joining us, Megan!
Megan Taylor: Thank you for having me! It’s an exciting time for Wayans fans with the brothers reuniting after almost 18 years.
Time.news Editor: Absolutely! It’s hard to believe it has been nearly two decades since all three Wayans brothers collaborated on a project. Can you tell us what prompted their return?
Megan Taylor: Certainly! The Wayans brothers—Kenan, Damon, and Marlon—have always been known for their comedic chemistry and unique storytelling style. Their reunion is likely fueled by a mix of nostalgia and a desire to tap back into the dynamic that made their earlier projects like “Scary Movie” and “In Living Color” so iconic. Fans have been waiting for this, and it seems they are ready to revisit that magic.
Time.news Editor: That makes a lot of sense. With their unique brand of humor, how do you expect this new project will resonate with both old fans and new audiences?
Megan Taylor: Great question! The Wayans brothers have a way of blending social commentary with humor, which makes their work timeless. While they may attract long-time fans, their ability to address contemporary themes will draw in new audiences as well. They’ve always had an eye for cultural relevance, so I expect their new project will be both hilarious and thought-provoking.
Time.news Editor: Speaking of cultural relevance, the landscape of comedy has evolved significantly over the past two decades. How do you think the Wayans will adapt to these changes?
Megan Taylor: That’s a fascinating aspect to consider. The Wayans brothers have always been able to adapt their humor to reflect societal changes. In today’s digital age, they might incorporate social media trends, online culture, and even the conversations around representation. Their past work was influential in breaking boundaries, and I think they’ll continue that tradition while staying relevant to current audiences.
Time.news Editor: It will be interesting to see how they do that! Given the distance from their last collaboration, do you think there will be any challenges in reuniting on this project?
Megan Taylor: Every reunion comes with its challenges, especially after such a long hiatus. They may face hurdles in blending their individual styles and ideas, since each brother has been working on different projects and genres. However, their history as a family and collaborative spirit should help them overcome these obstacles. Ultimately, they share a love for comedy and storytelling, which can guide them through any potential difficulties.
Time.news Editor: That’s a hopeful outlook! And what might we expect in terms of the comedic style of their upcoming project?
Megan Taylor: I anticipate we’ll see a blend of slapstick, satire, and clever dialogue—hallmarks of their previous work. They’ve always been able to mix genres, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they include elements of horror or parody, given their past successes. Their chemistry will play a huge role in making sure that old fans feel welcomed while also giving something fresh to new viewers.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like a lot to look forward to! Lastly, Megan, how do you think this reunion will impact the legacy of the Wayans brothers in the entertainment industry?
Megan Taylor: I think this reunion could give their legacy a significant boost. It reinforces the idea that comedy can bridge generational gaps, and it demonstrates the enduring appeal of their work. If they can successfully merge their past with a modern approach, it will not only honor their contributions but also set a new standard for family collaborations in Hollywood. Their influence has always extended beyond just their films; they’ve paved the way for many comedians who came after them.
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Megan! Your insights are invaluable, and we can’t wait to see what the Wayans brothers have in store for us.
Megan Taylor: Thanks for having me! I’m excited, too. It’s going to be a great ride for Wayans fans!
Time.news Editor: Stay tuned, everyone! We’ll keep you updated on the latest news surrounding this highly anticipated reunion.
